I’ve been pretty quiet since Gordon’s birth as we navigated his potential hearing loss. Due to a problem with our insurance, we can’t see a pediatric audiologist for a diagnosis until July. I was pretty angry for awhile. Then sad. Sometimes both. But I realized that his test results won’t change anything about how I feel about him. Gordon is, and always will be, my precious child and gift from God.
Also known as “tell me you’re a second-time mom, without telling me you’re a second-time mom.” I would never dream of doing this with my first 😂
Holidays are here, which means extra flights, extra passengers, and lots of extra luggage (without the extra ramp staff 🫠). This is your reminder to make sure you have two identifiers on your luggage, carry-on, carseats, and strollers, including your first name, last name, and current phone number. Even if…
Flying with a carseat can be overwhelming because every airline, every aircraft type, and every country have their own rules. Great 🫠 But within the U.S., these are the basic “can’ts” of flying with carseats onboard.
2022 Travel Recap, what a year. Let me know if you need any tips or itinerary ideas for visiting these destinations with/without kids, there really is something for everyone! Destinations not listed include Scottsdale, AZ (highly recommend for a girls’ trip) and a family camping trip at Sprague Creek in Glacier National Park (I don’t recommend this campground unless it’s the only one with vacancy).
I personally really enjoy sleeping on airplanes, I find the sounds and movements incredibly relaxing. Anyone else or just me?? Here’s a few tips on how to help your young child fall asleep on an airplane:
Not all car seats are approved for use on aircraft. Before your trip, simply check the label on the side of your car seat for a disclaimer regarding air travel. Sometimes the disclaimer will be in red font or have an airplane logo to catch your attention: “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft.” Gate agents and flight crews will verify this label before letting you board with your car seat, regardless of your child’s age.
Don’t let this keep you from traveling with your kids. Kids are allowed to be in public places, and they’re allowed to be kids. If these fears have you worried for an upcoming family trip, save this post for a few ideas to help:
Most US airlines offer preboarding for families traveling with children under the age of two. While you’ll have plenty of overhead bin space at your disposal, you’ll also be sitting on the plane for an extra 30-40 minutes while the other passengers board. There are only two scenarios where I recommend taking advantage of preboarding with your baby:
Tag a friend you’d stay here with!
💰Budget-friendly travel tip of the day: you can find places off the beaten path for your next trip with free apps like Recreation.gov, HipCamp, and The Dyrt for a fraction of the cost of hotels and vacation rentals.
Oh if I only had a dollar for all the times passengers have argued with me about flights delaying for weather when their phone app says it’s sunny and clear (and then they proceed to show me the radar).
